Quite obviously I'm new to this form. I've been an occasional visitor to the Wold Newton page over the last few years, and I've recently come back after watching the newest Star Trek film and reading the latest chapter of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

One of the things that I'm sure any fan has done is try to deduce if a story fits into the Wold Newton World. For a long time I've been trying to figure out what the 'rules' are for determining such an inclusion. I know many stories of exceptionally talented adventures and schemers who would be right at home with other such individuals, but without any solid references one can't simply make such a
decoration.

For instance; as an avid reader of manga, I'm familiar with Takao Saito's Golgo 13, a work featuring an extremely talented assassin who has often been compared to Flemming's Bond. The skills and natural talents of Duke Togo (the presumed name of the title character) along with his appearance have made me speculate a descendance from the legendary Man of Bronze. Naturally, this is only my own pet theory, but with no solid references to other works (that I know of at least; the series has been around for 40 years) then a solid case cannot be made.

As the site manager has made it clear that he holds a considerable backlog of work (no doubt complicated by the unfortunate death of Mr. Farmer), one simply cannot make suggestions left and right. However, I would enjoy holding open discussions on the subjects of characters and the criteria for inclusion. It's my hope that my knowledge of various works of western comics, manga, animation, games, television, film, and so on lends a helping hand to the process. That, and it's always fun to speculate.

I do hope to be a positive presence in matters of discussion.
